![]() After graduating from Shallowater High School, I began my college career at South Plains College as a Business Administration major, with my first semester's tuition fully paid for (partially funded by the Shallowater Education Foundation Scholarship). In addition to my classes, as a student at SPC, I have had the privilege of participating in several intramural sports and cheering in the student section at basketball games, being a Campus Ambassador my sophomore year (giving tours to prospective students), and winning the 2016 Miss Caprock Scholarship Pageant (I will crown the next winner in November 2017). I have also been on the Dean's List my first semester at SPC, and the President's List the last three semesters. I will graduate from South Plains College in May 2017, and I will continue my education at Texas Tech University Rawls College of Business as a marketing major. I cannot express my gratitude enough to all that aided in making this adventure possible for me--you truly do not understand the impact you have on our lives as students. Thank you so much! Former SEF Scholarship Recipient, Sharon Harkey, is currently finishing her BBA at Wayland Baptist University, and plans to pursue an MBA as well. She currently works as the Accountant for the Texas Tech Law School Foundation. We are so very pleased with her success and wish her many more graduations!
We fund scholarships through our golf tournament each spring. Learn how you can support our graduates. Hi everyone! I am finishing up my sophomore year at Pepperdine University, pursuing a degree in Journalism and Advertising, and truly enjoying every second. In my time at Pepperdine, I have become involved in many different avenues on campus, including working as a staff writer for The Graphic, our student newspaper, volunteering through the Pepperdine Volunteer Center, winning back-to-back championships with my intramural basketball team, and serving as the communications chair for my sorority, Pi Beta Phi. Over the past two years, I have learned that there is nothing quite like being surrounded by selfless, inspirational, ambitious people with unbound potential. I have learned to cherish every cafeteria dinner with housemates, and every car ride sing along down Pacific Coast Highway. I have learned to wake up early just to catch the sunrise, and to always stop and smell the flowers. Most of all, however, I have learned how truly blessed and thankful I am for the town I was raised in. Shallowater High School and organizations like the Shallowater Education Foundation challenged me to chase my dreams, pursue my passions, and to never be afraid to make a difference, and that is something I will forever be grateful for. Thank you so much again for everything!
Warm Regards, Hannah Almsted
Because of the Shallowater Education Foundation’s generous donation, we were able to purchase lighting instruments and costumes. We were able to deviate from standard area lighting to variable area lighting which provided dramatic key lighting. The new lighting allowed the student technician to produce a greater variety of effects during the performance. One of our judges, Mike, Schraeder, said, “This is the best designed shows I have seen at a UIL contest in a while and probably the best designed 3A show I have ever seen.” Design includes lighting, set and costuming. Students remarked about the foundation’s donations. Ashlynn Cunningham – Having these lights and costumes have taken our show from good to great. We’ve really gotten our confidence up because we don’t have to be concerned about all the tangly wires. – the lights are portable and wireless. Becca Alexander – We were only allowed to have one fundraiser so the lights and costumes were something we wouldn’t have had without the SEF’s generous donation. Sam Mitchell – Lights add emotion to the performance. The audience would not “get” the emotion we wanted to portray on stage. Sydney Bevers – The lights gave us the ability to bring our play to life and take it to the next level. The lights and costuming add dimension. Tucker Nelson – The lights add an eerie effect to our show that we could not have done without them. Tennessee Williams, the playwright, helped us produce Camino Real as he wrote it – with flashing white light to demonstrate good and innocence and red washes to illustrate chaos and fear. ![]() Go to http://shallowaterhighschoolcaminoreal.blogspot.com/ and then to 3/21 video, you can see a video of our show and see the lights and costumes you helped purchase. When children are this excited about opening a box of book bought with your generous donations, you know our teachers are doing something right. The love of learning is a true gift.
In 4th grade, students are using interactive electronic clickers to solve problems, crowd source ideas, and become involved in decision making. All the while, Mrs. McKinney receives detailed reports about the students choices. |
