Donations from residents and businesses are helping expand learning opportunities for Shallowater ISD students. Thanks to the new Shallowater Education Foundation, teachers throughout the district will share a total of more than 26 thousand dollars in grants awarded for winning project proposals. Elementary principal Mary Hughes said, "This has been one of the most exciting days we've had in a long time. We're limited in funds in Texas. Our district supports us being innovative in the classroom and the foundation came along this year and they're supplying the money to help our teachers be innovative in the classroom." Hughes said the grants are going to a variety of projects involving new technology, materials, and programs that are not covered by the school district's budget.http://www.myfoxlubbock.com/news/local/story/Shallowater-Mary-Hughes/S50TR1xA8kCYHSmI2NuXXw.cspx
